Birthing Services
In the new Sutter Santa Rosa Medical Center, women’s and children’s services have been consolidated in the new hospital into a collaborative, secure environment. Birthing services will include adjacent yet distinct areas of support, including monitored observation, labor, delivery, recovery and lactation consultation. Expectant mothers will have spacious private rooms, easy access to resources and options available to aid the process.
The birthing process will begin in one of ten private labor and delivery rooms. Each room provides comfort to patients as well as advanced care technology. Soothing earth-tone finishes and warm woodwork give way to contemporary equipment including lights, monitors and computers. Labor and delivery rooms are equipped with a bassinette, scale, newborn supplies, sleeper chair or sofa, patient wardrobe, dimmable reading light, 32-inch high definition LCD flat screen television and wireless internet access. Patient restrooms are fully tiled in an elegant color palette to promote serenity and a hygienic environment. Two of the Labor and Delivery rooms are also equipped with large laboring tubs. The laboring tubs offer a hydrotherapy option to reduce lower back pain and promote other beneficial physiological responses.
The unit is equipped with two C-section rooms down the hall from the laboring rooms, minimizing travel distance for expectant mothers and spouses. The cesarean procedural rooms have been designed independently from surgical services to meet the distinct needs of women and infants.
Private recovery rooms will accommodate traditional as well as surgical recovery. The Post Partum recovery wing is adjacent to birthing wing, and provides twenty rooms and support services. All rooms are spacious enough to be accessible for individuals with physical assistance needs. Like all other patient rooms in the hospital, this universal room design supports all patient populations. In addition to patient room features used throughout the hospital, each Post Partum room is equipped with a baby bassinette and finished in calming colors to create a healing environment. Sutter Medical Center Santa Rosa has been designed to facilitate the first nurturing moments between mother, child and family.
For newborns that require special procedures, such as circumcision, a procedural room is provided. A newborn baby nursery with viewing windows is also available. The newborn procedural room and nursery are central to the Post Partum wing to encourage observation and interaction with parents and family. Should newborns require additional attention, staff from the adjacent Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) can respond.
The family waiting area has views of the main entry garden, a coffee bar, internet access and an adjacent restroom. The waiting area is located outside the secured entry to women’s and children’s services. Mothers and visitors alike will enjoy state-of-the-art birthing services in a private, hospitable and secure environment that supports their needs.
